Ben Hazlewood has focused on releasing an EP and a series of stunning singles since his appearance on ‘The Voice’.
If you’ve had a keen ear, you’d have been paying attention to Ben since the start of his career. His voice is one that stands out and it’s this voice (and the subsequent discovery of it) that has finally led to his debut album ‘Bloodline’.
Created over a couple years on a long journey that’s seen him travel all over the world, ‘Bloodline’ has been worth the wait. The quality of the songs here are stunning and at several moments on this ten track debut release, goosebump-inducing.
‘Give Me Something’ kicks off the album in spectacular fashion. The chord progressions, harmonies, lyrics and, of course, his voice bring this song to life. It’s stunning way to start and sets the tone and pace for what’s to follow.
From the first line of ‘Lover’, I’m captivated. The clarity in the tone of Ben’s voice strikes you square in the face. Then you realise what he’s singing about and you can’t help but melt. Sharing his passion for his lover, it’s raw and honest.
Discovery is an important theme across the album. ‘Chasing Lights’ is all about looking for the things you desire but missing the more important things like loved ones. Its structure and lyricism are fresh and familiar all at the same time.
In fact all the songs here are modern in their own way.
‘Bloodline’ is a fabulous listen from start to finish.
If I could force download this onto everyone’s devices like U2 did several years ago, I would. It’s seriously that good.
VERDICT : 5/5.
MUST LISTEN : Give Me Something, Chasing Lights, Fear Is Catching.
