‘Shania Twain’ is the brand new single from Melbourne artist Future Strangers that does impress us much.
Released on Thursday, the track isn’t an homage to the Canadian country/pop superstar, but it does name check her and it’s as catchy as some of her biggest radio hits.
According to his publicists, Shania figured strongly in the formative years of Future Strangers (real name Matt Connelly); she was his mum’s favourite artist. And, as such, the song harks back to a simpler time.
“I wanted to make a record about things that I really cared about,” Future Strangers says. “Maybe it’s naive of me, but I am hoping that in some way I can encourage others through hard times and also to stand up for what they believe in.”
It’s bright, Up! (another Shania reference for those of you playing along at home) and gives us a taste of what to expect when the EP lands later in the year. And we suspect we’ll be fans of whatever Future Strangers serves up… from this moment on.
